BuildingBoat

BuildingBoat — a display stand for LEGO models, built from bricks

We design brick-built display stands for LEGO ships and vehicles, and lit scene kits you can finish in an evening. Every stand clips into the model you already own, and every box arrives with numbered bags and printed instructions.

What we build: BuildingBoat display stands for LEGO building kits

A display stand for LEGO models has one job: hold a finished build at an angle where the detailing is actually visible. We build ours from the same ABS bricks as the sets they carry, so a BuildingBoat stand reads as part of the model rather than a plastic shelf under it. Each stand is cut to one specific set — 75192, 75389, 75394, 75357 — and the geometry is tested against that set before the mould is signed off.

The rest of the yard is scene kits. A greenhouse with transparent walls and an LED, a nutcracker with a tree that lights up, two troop carriers with hidden wheels. They are built from the same bricks, they take the same minifigures, and they sit on the same shelf as the stands. Pick a shelf below and the whole range opens up.

Why a brick stand beats a plain acrylic plate

Clear acrylic display cases protect a build from dust, and nothing we make replaces them. What acrylic cases do badly is attitude: a flat base leaves a starship sitting level, like a model on a table. Our angled stands tilt the hull, lift the nose and put the underside on show — the part a builder spent two evenings detailing.

The brackets are weighted at the base and locked with a link-and-lock column, so a heavy UCS hull stays where it was put. Nothing is glued, nothing is drilled, and the model comes off the stand as easily as it went on.

Lit scenes that keep a desk warm

Two of our sets ship with an LED inside. The flower house is assembled mostly from transparent parts, so the light spills through the walls and the greenhouse glows from the inside out. The nutcracker hides its LED in the Christmas tree: hold the tree, twist it, and the whole scene turns warm.

Both are sized for a desk rather than a display cabinet — 6 to 9 inches across — and both arrive in a printed gift box.

What arrives in the box

Bags are numbered in build order, the instruction book is printed in colour, and spare bricks for the small parts are in the last bag. Our stands carry no stickers at all: the colour is in the plastic, so a stand built today looks the same in five years.

Three steps from the box to the shelf

  1. 1

    Pick a set

Find the stand for your model number, or a lit kit that fits the shelf you have.

  2. 2

    Open the numbered bags

Bags go in build order and the colour instruction book is printed, not a link.

  3. 3

    Clip it in

Stands clip into the model you already own. No glue, no stickers, no tools.

What builders wrote about these sets

Worth it, with some caveats

The stand works well for the Star Destroyer, but was somewhat difficult to put together. Some pieces are very tight and required me to push against a hard surface to fit. The instructions were also a bit confusing, but overall was worth the price paid.

Captain Troggers

Huge hit.

Was given as a gift and I had a chance to see it in person, it is better than what I thought in person. Opening windows, cute details inside and out. This brought a huge smile to her face, when she was discussing it and showing me.. Worth every penny.

Bo Krejci

Can’t beat it for the price. Great set with Quality plastic bricks very similar to Lego. If you are on the fence it is 100% worth buying over any overpriced Lego set. No missing parts or issues and easy to follow instructions.

Dominic Quinn

Fun to put together!

I bought this for my teenager. It took some time to put together because there are many pieces. But it was fairly easy using instructions and very enjoyable. It became apart of my Christmas decor and is so cute!

Jill H.

Extremely cute and inexpensive!!

LOVED, loved, loved this!! Easy to put together, extremely cute. using as a nite-lite. PERFECT gift. Bought it for a friend I didn't see for Christmas and got to keep it myself- so glad!! Great price too!

The tree lights up!!

I love it! Everything came in separate clearly labeled bags. Instructions were clear. Very easy to build, except for the wreath that kept falling apart. Similar to the name brand but for half the price.

Questions we get at the yard

What is the best way to display LEGO models?

Lift them off the flat. A model standing on its landing gear shows a roofline; the same model on an angled display stand shows the hull, the engines and the greebling underneath. For a shelf with children or pets around, combine the two: an angled stand inside a clear case gives you the view and the dust protection at once.

Are your stands designed for a specific set or universal?

Specific. Each BuildingBoat display stand is cut for one set number — our brackets fit 75192, 75389, 75394 and 75357 — because a universal cradle has to be loose enough to hold anything and ends up holding nothing securely. The set number is in the name of every stand we sell.

Will the stand hold a heavy UCS build?

Yes. The 75192 bracket is 408 pieces with a wide weighted base and a triangular spine, and it has been tested with the full Millennium Falcon hull mounted vertically. The 75389 bracket uses a dual-sided lateral triangle for the same reason.

Do acrylic display cases yellow over time?

Cast acrylic yellows slowly in direct sun; our stands are ABS, which holds colour longer and will not craze. Either way, keep a display out of a south window — ultraviolet light is what ages both materials.

Are the kits easy to put together?

They are built like any brick set: numbered bags, a printed booklet, no tools. Our stands run from 172 to 408 pieces and take under two hours; the 1286-piece troop transport is a weekend build.

A short note on fit, sizes and collections

Everything in this catalogue is compatible with LEGO bricks and nothing in it is made by the LEGO Group — we are an independent yard, and set numbers appear here only to say which model a stand was cut for. Collectors who build Star Wars ships and LEGO Technic chassis buy our brackets to free up shelf depth; families buy the lit sets because they build in an evening.

Most LEGO display stands sold today are a flat acrylic plate with a post. Ours are brick kits with a set number in the name, which is why they showcase a hull instead of parking it. The word premium we would rather earn in the mould and the booklet — numbered bags, colour printing, no stickers — than in a listing photo, and the fans who write to the yard usually already own a shelf of LEGO sets to put ours beside.

If a stand for a set you own is missing from the shelf, write to the yard. Requests are how the last three brackets got designed.
